ayutthaya

Catch a train in Bangkok and head north for an hour or two, and you'll arrive at Ayutthaya, effectively the capital of Siam, old Thailand, between the mid 1300s to the 1760s, now a world heritage site, and a place that is steeped in legend, history and now decay. This city formed the last line of defence against the rampaging Burmese for 4 centuries, seeing 7 dynasties taking, sometimes forcefully the seat of power, enduring treachery, fortune, riches and war before eventually succumbing to the Burmese hordes.

The site fascinates me, and I wanted to create a set of images that say "if only these buildings could talk". The set of images you see here are available as 4 large scale tableaus, designed together with historical text that tells the story of this wonderful place. Thailand will always hold a special place in my heart for it's people and culture, but of all the places I've been fortunate to visit in the world, this home of the original "U Thong" Dynasty simply blows me away.
